Professional Development
The main objective of the committee of professional development is to obtain a similar social and economic recognition for the geologist profession as for that of other professions with the same academical requirements.
Most people recognize the social function of architects, civil engineers, doctors or lawyers, but unfortunately the same cannot be said of geologists, who are all too often confused with other professionals.
The committee holds frequent meetings with regional heads of administration, their aim being to make our collective known while ensuring that the limited existing legislation on obligations with regard to geology is upheld.
We are full members of the commission that aims to reform the Cultural Patrimony Regulation, approved during the first half of the year 2002, together with universities and museums, and which, with regard to palaeontology, we consider to be totally inadequate.
